Alpha Microsystems Inc. of Santa Ana said it lost $3.5 million in its fiscal 1986, compared with net earnings of $2.1 million in fiscal 1985. For the fourth quarter, the company posted a net loss of $1.5 million compared with a fiscal 1985 fourth-quarter profit of $66,000.
For the quarter ended Feb. 23, revenues were $11.4 million, off 6% from the $12.1 million recorded in the prior-year period. For the full year, revenues were $48.1 million, off 7.5% from $51.7 million.
Although the company’s losses continued mounting through the year, Richard Cortese, president and chief executive, said the amount of red ink generated by ongoing operations was narrowed in the final quarter of the year. Of the $1.5-million quarterly loss, more than $1 million represented the writing off of a customer’s uncollectable note, he said.
