Habib Confers With Peruvian President on Central America
U.S. special envoy Philip C. Habib arrived Friday for talks on Central America with Peruvian President Alan Garcia, a critic of Washington’s policy toward Nicaragua.
Habib is visiting South American nations involved in the Contadora peace initiative for Central America. Since Monday, he has met the presidents of Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil.
The Contadora countries and their support group early this month called on five Central American countries to sign a peace accord on June 6 in Panama City.
