Sleeper Hurt as Hit-Run Auto Strikes Apartment
A driver fleeing an accident lost control of his car Saturday and plunged into the living room of an apartment in Santa Ana, injuring a sleeping man, police said.
Sgt. Mike Lanners said the first accident occurred when the driver struck a car at Bristol and Bishop streets. The driver fled with the other driver chasing him, but lost control at Sycamore and Bishop streets and crashed into a first-floor apartment at 533 S. Sycamore at 3:58 a.m., Lanners said.
The car knocked over a chair in which James Conroy, 68, was asleep, Lanners said. Conroy suffered bruises to his legs and lower body and was taken to Western Medical Center for treatment.
The fleeing driver escaped on foot.
