The World : Briton Killed in Jerusalem
A British tourist was shot to death outside a Christian holy site in Arab East Jerusalem in what police suspected was a terrorist attack. Paul Appleby, 28, was shot in the back of the head as he walked to the entrance of the Garden Tomb, close to Jerusalem’s Old City. Protestants revere the site as the place where Jesus was crucified and buried, although other Christian groups believe the site was at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Police said they are investigating whether the attack was related to Britain’s support for the U.S. air raid on Libya. However, they added that terrorists may have mistaken Appleby for an Israeli because of his sandals, casual dress and beard.
