Riot, Fires at Virginia Reformatory Injure 11

LORTON, Va. — At least 11 people, including a prison guard, were injured in early morning rioting and fires at Lorton Reformatory’s Youth Center No. 1 today, prison authorities said.

Inmates, most of them in their late teens and early 20s, rampaged through the facility and set two fires, severely damaging an academic building on the grounds. Firefighters waited several hours before battling the blazes to give guards time to get the inmates under control.
