Czechoslovakia trounced the United States, 10-2, and West Germany and Poland tied, 5-5, on the final day of the consolation round at the World Hockey Championships in Moscow.

The Czechs’ victory over the United States assured the defending champions of fifth place in the championships that started with losses to Poland and West Germany.

The United States finished sixth. Ed Olczyk of the Chicago Blackhawks and Mark Johnson of the New Jersey Devils scored the only two American goals.
