Pennzoil will lay off about 8% of its work force.
Company officials said dwindling oil prices will force the company to furlough 600 workers by the end of the year. The company said in a statement that many of the reductions will be made through a voluntary retirement program for some salaried employees aged 55 and older. About 400 employees are eligible for the program, officials said.
