Datum Inc. to Purchase Spectrum Technology

Share

Datum Inc. said Monday that it will purchase for an undisclosed amount of cash 100% of the stock of Spectrum Technology Inc., a Goleta-based distributor of crystal oscillators for use in defense and aerospace applications.

The Anaheim-based company declined to say how much it will pay for Spectrum, which had 1985 revenues of approximately $4 million. However, Louis B. Horwitz, Datum’s president, said Spectrum’s net earnings will “put more money on the bottom line than if the money were put into savings.”

Datum manufactures precision timing equipment for military and commercial uses. Because the oscillators supplied by Spectrum are also used in equipment it makes, Datum said the acquisition “will be another major step in expanding the company’s position in frequency products.”
