U.S. Policy in Nicaragua
Susan Spreen, in her letter of April 8, states that Daniel Ortega has brought “brutal tyranny” to his country. As a U.S. citizen who has traveled to Nicaragua within the last year, I was witness to government programs that have brought literacy, improved medical care, and renewed confidence to the Nicaraguan people after nearly a half-century of the brutal Somoza family dictatorship (a U.S.-supported dictatorship, if you remember).
I have only one word to describe my opinion concerning the Sandinista-Reagan Administration conflict; a word I now wish to shout to the rooftops: Contadora! Contadora!
