A former member of Parliament was beheaded and at least 400 people were injured in pre-election violence in Bangladesh. Police said unidentified gunmen shot Rabuil Awal Kiron, 45, at Shibpur, 25 miles from a meeting of the opposition Awami League. The attackers then chopped off his head, police said. His party blamed activists of the pro-government Jatiya Party. The injuries came during battles between rival party supporters in Dhaka, Jamalpur and other areas. The election is next week.
