The World : Marcos Rally Broken Up

Riot police in Manila dispersed supporters of deposed President Ferdinand E. Marcos, who were trying to hold a rally in a downtown park. The police, with the help of firemen, then used a water cannon to sweep the demonstrators off a main street. At least two people were injured, and five were arrested. Meanwhile, Philippine Vice President Salvador Laurel said he had told President Reagan last week that Marcos might try to destabilize the new Manila government if he left Hawaii for another country. Reagan “understood our position,” Laurel said.
