“Go, Johnny Go!” Hal Roach Studios. $29.95. Deejay Alan Freed starred in and produced this 1959 rock-genre film that used a thin, familiar story (a problem teen-ager with a heart of gold who dreams of being a star) as the backdrop for serving up lip-synced performances by rock stars of the day. Among them: Chuck Berry (who also has a key acting role), Jimmy Clanton (as the teen-ager), Eddie Cochran and Ritchie Valens. Lots of fun in a campy, nostalgic way. Note: Several songs listed by the singers’ names on the cassette cover aren’t performed in the film.
