CBS Regroups, Drops 14 Series

CBS, the No. 2 network after six seasons in first place, will try to rebound next season by canceling 14 series--including seven mid-season replacements--airing seven new ones and moving 10 returning shows.

“Trapper John, M.D.” and “Crazy Like a Fox” were among the casualties. “Mike Hammer,” taken off the air when star Stacy Keach was imprisoned on drug charges and currently in reruns, reappears. Mary Tyler Moore, whose “Mary” failed as a mid-season entry, will have a new series which was not on the fall schedule. Stars with new series include Elliott Gould, Dee Wallace-Stone and Pam Dawber.
