Tornado Injures 7, Damages 55 Homes
A tornado has left seven people injured and 55 homes damaged after passing through the central Cuban city of Cartagena, Cuba’s official Prensa Latina news agency reported.
The Friday twister tore a 500-yard-wide path of destruction up to six miles long when it swirled down on Cartagena, in the central province of Cienfuegos, said the dispatch monitored in Mexico City.
Damage to lines cut off part of the city’s electrical power and all of its telephone service. No deaths were reported.
Meanwhile, Cuba’s Meteorological Institute also said the town of Union de Reyes was hit by a storm with hail the size of garbanzo beans, accompanied by a small tornado that lasted three minutes. No damage was reported.
