Wespercorp Reports $26,000 Quarterly Net

Wespercorp, a Santa Ana manufacturer of computer equipment, reported net income of $26,000 in its fiscal third quarter ended March 31--the company’s first profitable quarter in 30 months. In the same quarter of its fiscal 1985 the company lost $857,000.

Wespercorp said that by cutting costs it achieved a third quarter gain in profits despite a decline in sales--to $3.5 million from $4.99 million.

For the first nine months of its fiscal 1986, the company lost $229,000, compared with a loss of $2.49 million for the same period in fiscal 1985. Sales of $10.8 million were down from $15.2 million.

The company attributed the third quarter decline in sales in part to lower sales under its Federal Aviation Administration contract. The company said that although it suffered from lower demand for its tape controller products, the decline was partially offset by increased demand for the company’s printer controller products.

Wespercorp officials said the profitability of the company in the future may depend on the outcome of two lawsuits pending against the firm, including a shareholder class-action lawsuit and a suit alleging a breach of contract.
