The relief agency World Vision International announced Tuesday that it has pulled all its aid workers out of the Ethiopian province of Tigre because of threats from guerrillas.

The withdrawal comes after two Ethiopians employed by the relief agency were killed by rebels in the area last month.

“We have pulled out our whole team from the province. A total of 19 workers have been withdrawn, 12 of them Ethiopians and seven expatriates,” said a spokeswoman for the agency based in Monrovia, Calif.

She said the organization’s program to feed 250,000 Ethiopians has been suspended, and it is discussing the situation with Ethiopian authorities.
