U.S. Warns Israel, Syria on War

WASHINGTON —
Secretary of State George P. Shultz said today that the United States has cautioned Israel and Syria not to start a war in what he called a highly tense situation between the two countries.
Shultz told the Overseas Writers’ Club that Syria has carried out a “big buildup” of its forces in Lebanon and has moved its fortifications forward. “It’s a highly tense situation, there’s no doubt about that,” he said.
