Walton Wins Sixth Man Award

Bill Walton, who played in a career-high 80 games as a reserve center for the Boston Celtics, was named today as winner of the Starter-NBA Sixth Man award.

Walton, who averaged 7.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.33 blocked shots per game this season, got 32 votes from a nationwide panel of 78 media members. Milwaukee guard Ricky Pierce finished second with 11 votes. Sacramento forward Eddie Johnson was third with 10, followed by Los Angeles Lakers swingman Michael Cooper with nine.
