His troops and funds depleted, Nicaraguan rebel leader Eden Pastora, known as Commander Zero, turned himself in today to the Costa Rican civil guard along the San Juan River to await a decision on his request for asylum.

Pastora was taken to a place where he could talk with journalists who had gone to the border to await his arrival, Radio Monumental said. The first 90 of a total of 400 men who are accompanying Pastora also entered Costa Rica and were taken to a site away from the border while their status is clarified.
