A Hollywood woman was sentenced to three months in a halfway house for her role in running two businesses that bilked customers out of at least $1.1 million. Judith Burke, 54, and her husband Leslie Burke, 58, ran two telephone boiler room operations which offered phony sweepstakes prizes to customers who paid $499 for a pen and pencil set. The Burkes were arrested in September and pleaded guilty to mail fraud charges in January. U.S. District Judge Terry Hatter Jr. also ordered Mrs. Burke to perform 1,500 hours of community service and serve three years’ probation. Leslie Burke’s sentencing was postponed until June 30.
