PALERMO, Sicily —
The Mafia’s traditional code of silence took on a new meaning today when a defendant in the trial of 468 alleged mobsters accused of being members of the Sicilian crime family stitched his lips together.
Salvatore Ercolano appeared to have sealed his lips with stapling wire and was resisting attempts to remove it, police reported.
