Social Security and Sharing Sacrifice

Share

Conine conveniently forgets that most Social Security recipients have only three basic expenses: food, shelter and medical, which during 1985 have risen at rates 5%, 7% and 22% respectively.

Why we sit still for a 3% COLA, while in 1986 alone (by administrative decree) Reagan gave us a 23% increase in Medicare hospital admittance expense, is beyond comprehension. Sen. John Heinz (R-Pa.) is to be commended, not criticized, for what he is doing to rectify in some small measure for such glaring inequities.

Minority or not, I would remind Conine that inherently we tend to vote, and Congress knows it. Does The Times intend to give Conine further editorial privilege to organize his own minority?
