Social Security and Sharing Sacrifice

Share

Ernest Conine with whom I frequently disagree, seems to be suffering from S.S.A.--Social Security Amnesia. He forgets that a great many people entitled to Social Security are still working and continuing to contribute to the Social Security Funds, that Social Security recipients, having taken one six-months delay in COLA, receive less cost-of-living adjustments each year than if there had been no such cut. They are already making a sacrifice. Social Security has its own fund and has not contributed one cent to the national deficit. He also forgets that many people in the Social Security bracket are paying their debt to society with important and extensive volunteer work in hospitals, helping the homeless, teaching CPR and other humanitarian activities. This, despite, in some cases, heavy work loads and financial sacrifice.
