The resignation of Rhode Island’s highest judge to avoid possible impeachment will not quash inquiries into whether he should face criminal charges, authorities said in Providence. Federal and state prosecutors said they would examine evidence gathered during the investigation of Supreme Court Chief Justice Joseph A. Bevilacqua’s actions off the bench to determine whether to seek indictments. Bevilacqua, 67, has resigned effective June 30.
