Brea : Sutton to Take Post of Mayor for 18 Months
Mayor Clarice A. Blamer will pass her gavel to the current mayor pro tem during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
John H. Sutton, 65, will assume the mayor’s role for the next 18 months.
Sutton, a councilman since late 1983, was a planning commissioner for 17 years and served on various city and county committees.
A resident of Brea for 26 years, Sutton lives with his wife, has four children and four grandchildren. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from USC. On Friday he retired as general sales manager from Strip Steel Inc.
Sutton’s term will be 18 months instead of the usual year because he and Blamer split the year the late Sam Cooper was to serve as mayor. Sutton became the mayor pro tem after Cooper’s death. Blamer’s term was extended by six months at Sutton’s request, giving him a chance to devote more time to the position following his retirement.
