The maker of a pesticide believed linked to skin rashes among 100 citrus workers in Tulare County said the product has been removed from the market “indefinitely.” Uniroyal Inc. spokesman Yanis Bibelnieks said the miticide Omite CR will remain off the market while more data is gathered. “We are confident it’s a safe and effective product,” Bibelnieks said. “But by doing this it takes the pressure off the growers.” A total of 104 workers from LoBue Bros. Packing in Lindsay contracted skin rashes while working in groves treated with the pesticide, and state officials said test results indicated that some of the chemical may not have broken down to an acceptable level by the time the workers were allowed to enter.
