Torrance : Donation to Aid Research

The Harbor-UCLA Medical Center here will purchase a special microscope with a donation of nearly $5,000 from Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. of Torrance. Called an “inverted phase contrast microscope,” the equipment permits a better view of the growth process of live tissues by magnifying them from the bottom of a slide. The microscope will be used for research of infectious diseases, beginning with the study of Candida albicans , a yeast-like fungus that can affect the brain, heart, kidneys and eyes.
