8 Men Indicted in Plot to Ship Weapons to IRA
Four Irish nationals and four Boston men were indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury for allegedly plotting to ship sophisticated arms and ammunition--including a surface-to-air missile--to the outlawed Irish Republican Army.
The men, arrested last month when inspecting weapons loaded aboard a jet bound for Ireland, were indicted on charges of conspiring to violate the Arms Export Control Act and various federal firearms statutes. An undercover FBI agent posing as an arms dealer helped break the case, officials said.
