A state security court today convicted two Libyans of possession of explosives in the attempted bombing of a U.S. officers’ club and sentenced each man to five years in prison.

Ali Ecefli Ramadan and Recep Muhtar Rohoma Tarhuni, both 31, were caught by police April 18 near the Ankara club. Police said they tried to hurl a bag stuffed with six Soviet-made hand grenades. No one was injured. The court acquitted the two on the more serious charge of conspiring to kill a group of people.
