Princess Anne Cancels Peru Trip; Security Cited
A proposed visit to Peru by Britain’s Princess Anne has been canceled because of security fears, the Foreign Office said Friday.
The daughter of Queen Elizabeth was due to go to Peru in November in her capacity as president of the Save the Children Fund, as part of a tour which would also have taken her to Ecuador and Bermuda, the spokeswoman said.
It was unlikely the princess would make the visit to the other two countries, though no final decision had made, the spokeswoman said.
Peru’s leading guerrilla force, the Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) has recently stepped up its anti-government insurgency.
