Reagan’s Stance on Salt II

Share

I don’t admire confrontational foreign policy, and the exercise of “brinksmanship” usually scares me. However, I approve of President Reagan’s action in junking the SALT II non-agreement!

SALT II was just an excuse to remain bogged down for 14 years and avoid real disarmament pacts, which could really produce world peace.

The Soviets will recover from the shock a lot sooner than our allies, who, as long as our armed forces and money are protecting them in Europe, prefer to maintain an interminable “status quo,” proceeding at a snail’s crawl toward peace.

President Reagan and Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger have the proper attitude for our allies and our adversaries alike. I read it, “Shed your arms or get off our money pot.”
