A senior member of a radical Palestinian faction was shot to death on a street in downtown Athens. Palestine Liberation Organization spokesmen identified the victim as Khaled Nazal, 38, an aide to Nayef Hawatmeh, leader of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine. No group claimed responsibility for the killing. The PLO accused Israel, but Arab diplomats said the murder was part of the struggle between PLO leader Yasser Arafat’s followers and foes.
