His-and-Her Lottery Payoffs Net $6 Million
A couple won two lottery jackpots of almost $3 million each after the husband saw tickets in his wife’s car and bought more with the same numbers because he thought they were from a previous drawing.
Anthony Janeiro, 68, and his wife, Josephine, 66, held the only two winning tickets out of 4.5 million sold, lottery officials said when the couple claimed their combined prize of $5,972,376 Tuesday.
“This is a first today--our first his-and-hers winners,” said Joan Zielinski, executive director of the New Jersey Lottery.
Lottery officials presented Janeiro and his wife each with a check for initial payments of $116,550. For the next 19 years, each will receive annual payments of $119,600 after federal tax deductions.
