About 35,000 servicemen and women will take part in desert war games to be held in Southern California and Utah next month. Most ground operations for the exercise, code-named “Gallant Eagle,” will be conducted at Ft. Irwin in the Mojave Desert and at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms. Elements of each of the armed services will participate, along with units from the reserves and National Guard. A Pentagon spokesman said air support for the operations will be furnished by Air Force installations throughout the Southwest.
