The Italia II, an Italian yacht scheduled to compete in the America’s Cup in Australia, sank at La Spezia, Italy, after a crane collapsed while lowering the vessel into the water.

The yacht was being lowered into the harbor when the arm of the crane collapsed. The crane fell onto the deck of the vessel, causing it to sink within minutes to a depth of 16 to 19 feet.

Work crews pumped out water from the sunken vessel before hoisting it back onto the dock. The full extent of damage would not be known until today, but it appeared limited to the deck, an Italian news service reported.
