The Supreme Court let stand a ruling on ATMs.

With one dissenting vote, the high court let stand a ruling that allows national banks to make widespread use of automatic teller machines owned by other companies without being in violation of branch banking restrictions. The New York Independent Bankers Assn. challenged the use of an automatic teller machine by Marine Midland Bank in Canandaigua, N.Y. The machine is owned by Wegmans Food Markets, a grocery store chain. Marine Midland, a major bank based in Buffalo, N.Y., pays Wegmans a fee for each machine transaction completed by a Marine Midland customer. The bank’s customers can use the machines for deposits, withdrawals, to transfer money between accounts, to obtain account balance information and to get cash advances against credit cards.
