American Dies in Car Fire

GUATEMALA CITY — Norma Jane Waagan, 45, of Tacoma, Wash., burned to death after an explosion set fire to her car, trapping her inside, authorities said Monday. The cause of the explosion was not known, but authorities speculated that sparks from an electrical short circuit ignited the car’s gasoline tank.
Waagan reportedly was a former Jehovah’s Witnesses missionary who had lived in Guatemala for nine years.
