The Environmental Protection Agency said it was reversing itself and ruling it illegal for manufacturers and sellers of microbial pesticides to make claims for their products not supported by test data. The agency said it was doing so because some unidentified manufacturers were making unsupported claims that their sterilants and disinfectants were effective in killing the AIDS virus (HTLV-III or LAV) and the Type B hepatitis virus (HBV).
