Firefighters early Thursday extinguished the last of three fires caused by four simultaneous explosions in Kuwait’s southern oil fields, the Kuwaiti news agency said.

The news agency quoted a fire brigade official as saying that the last blaze at the crude pipeline areas that supply the southern and northern oil tank field in the Al Ahmadi area, 48 miles south of the capital, was put out at 1:15 a.m.

Fire brigades extinguished two other fires only hours after they erupted Tuesday, but the third was fed by stored fuel and harder to extinguish.

The Kuwaiti government said Wednesday it suspected sabotage in the four simultaneous explosions that started the fires and blamed critics of Kuwait’s oil policy.
