Soviet authorities, uncovering a major scandal in night schools, have charged more than 100 teachers and administrators with padding payrolls, enrolling non-existent students and taking bribes, the newspaper Soviet Russia reported. Hundreds of other teachers and administrators were fired or reprimanded, and more than 1,000 educational facilities were closed, the paper said. The scandal centered on adult extension courses in schools funded by the government in the Russian Federation, the largest of the country’s 15 republics.
