La Palma : State Grant Boosts Child-Care Capacity
The city’s child-care service can handle 250 children, 100 more than before, thanks to a $100,000 grant given to the city last week by the state Department of Education. The grant, for the city’s “Latchkey” program, is the latest of three perennial child-care grants for La Palma children, said Gregory Kind, director of community services.
The new program emphasizes child care from after school to the time when parents arrive home, Kind said.
All programs charge rates comparable to private day-care centers, but families may qualify for reduced rates if they can demonstrate financial need.
Infants to junior high-age children are accepted. The program’s number is (714) 526-2227, Ext. 270.
