County Developers Win ‘Golden Nugget’ Awards
Orange County developers and their projects captured five of the top awards in the “Golden Nugget” competition at the recent Pacific Coast Builders Conference in San Francisco. Additionally, 36 county-based building projects were awarded certificates of merit in the annual competition.
The county’s top award winners were:
- Costa Mesa Courtyards, best commercial-retail project. The builder was PSB Realty Corp., a division of Pacific Savings Bank in Costa Mesa. The architect was Klages Carter Vail & Partners, also of Costa Mesa. The $30-million project, part of the downtown Costa Mesa redevelopment plan, won the award over competition that included San Diego’s highly touted Horton Plaza retail shopping center.
- Warland 8, best industrial project--an industrial center in Cypress. Built by Warland Investments Ltd. The architect was Howard F. Thompson & Associates, Irvine.
- Hillcrest, Mission Viejo, best affordable attached housing development. Built by the Mission Viejo Co.
- California Colony, Santa Ana, best affordable detached housing development. Built and designed by Kaufman & Broad, Los Angeles.
- Rancho Santa Margarita, best residential site plan for tracts in excess of 125 acres, for the initial development on Rancho Mission Viejo in Southern Orange County. The Santa Margarita Co. is the builder. Land planning was by Phillips Brandt Reddick of Irvine.
- Pacific Ranch, Huntington Beach, best condominium or attached home in excess of 2,000 square feet. Built by the Mansion Hill partnership. The architect was McLarand, Vasquez & Partners Inc., of Costa Mesa.
