Donald McKee, Longtime OCC Professor, Dies
A memorial service for Donald E. McKee, an Orange Coast College business education professor for 24 years, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Mesa Verde Methodist Church, 1701 W. Baker St. in Costa Mesa.
McKee, 57, died Thursday at UCLA Medical Center after a three-month battle with acute leukemia. His death came only a few weeks after he had retired from the community college in Costa Mesa, where he had taught since 1962.
A native of Covington, Ky., McKee received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in marketing from UCLA. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his military service in Korea, serving as an officer in the 45th Infantry Division.
McKee, who lived in Costa Mesa, served as assistant chairman of the Orange Coast College business division in 1967-68. He was a longtime member of the college’s scholarship committee.
An avid sports fan, McKee kept statistics for Orange Coast College’s crew team for many years. A perpetual trophy, the Don McKee Cup, was inaugurated in his honor in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Kim, 24, and Karen, 21, and a son, John, 19.
The family has requested donations to the UCLA Cancer and Leukemia Research Foundation.
