George A. Vonder Linden, 44, has been elected chief executive of Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Co., the investment banking and brokerage subsidiary of Smith Barney Inc., New York. He remains president of the subsidiary.
Vonder Linden replaces John A. Orb, who continues as chairman of the brokerage unit and chairman and CEO of its parent.
