Court Stops Execution; Hearing Set on Jury Bias

JACKSON, Ga. —
Condemned prisoner Son Fleming was granted a reprieve Friday hours before he was to die in the electric chair for slaying a Georgia police chief.
The U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta issued the reprieve staying Fleming’s scheduled 7 p.m. execution until it can hear arguments that Fleming was tried unfairly because of the dismissal of black jurors.
