Philippine Army to Avoid Truce Talks, Enrile Says
From Reuters
MANILA —
Philippine Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile said Friday that the military would not take part in cease-fire talks between the government and Communist insurgents so that free discussions could take place.
“We are actually involved in the conflict, and it is better that we remove all kinds of emotions . . . so that the assessment would be done with the highest possible objectivity,” he told a business club meeting.
No date has been set for talks.
