South Korean dissident leader Kim Dae Jung called on the U.S. government to openly support the democratic movement in his country, as it did in the Philippines. Otherwise, he told a reporter, anti-Americanism will grow among South Koreans. Kim also disclosed that for the first time since returning from exile 17 months ago, he has been invited to the U.S. Embassy in Seoul--for next Friday’s Independence Day reception.
