Armed leftist rebels invaded a Roman Catholic church Monday in Medellin, a city that Pope John Paul II will visit, and harangued the congregation from the pulpit on the plight of Colombia’s poor.

The Pope is scheduled to arrive today for a seven-day visit to this South American nation.

It was the fourth time in the last three weeks that members of the National Liberation Army, a pro-Cuban group, have taken over a church or seminary building briefly to deliver such messages to people in cities that the Pope will visit.
