A $25,000 grant is up for grabs for the San Fernando Valley nonprofit organization that comes up with the best community-improvement idea in a contest sponsored by ITT Corp. and the Van Nuys Chamber of Commerce.

More than 100 letters were mailed Tuesday to nonprofit organizations asking the groups to send in a summary of how they could spend $25,000. The Van Nuys Chamber will accept applications until July 31.

ITT employs 4,000 people in the San Fernando Valley, including 2,000 at the ITT Gifillan plant in Van Nuys. The nationwide company sponsors the contest in cities where it operates.
