Printing Error Lets Hundreds Win in Macao’s Lottery
Hundreds of lottery players were in luck Tuesday when the Macao government ordered that they all be paid for tickets that carried the same number because of a printing error.
The gambling commission in this Portuguese-run territory on the south China coast told the Instant Lottery Co. to honor about 600 first-prize tickets with a total payout equivalent to $1.9 million. Only one person should have won the first prize of $1,300.
A spokesman for the company said it would discuss the mistake with the British printers of the tickets and their insurers.
